This is a proper rendition of Barbera, from a producer who specializes in this classic Piemontese varietal. Barbera is also quite popular in California, where many winemakers brutalize it with over-extraction and French oak. However, here in the small village of Agliano in the appellation of Asti, Agostino Pavia makes a tradtional, medium-bodied wine. Perfectly ripe strawberries and cranberries jump out of the glass of blood-red wine and firm acidity carries the palate to a nice, long finish.
