Madiran is a lesser-known wine region in the Southwest of France, making rustic, full-bodied wines from the Tannat grape. Tannat is like Cabernet Sauvignon's redneck trucker cousin; it's tannic, coarse, and a little rough around the edges , but it knows how to party. This a staff favorite from a bunch of pretentious sommeliers who are no strangers to classified Bordeaux.
